KINTO Zero.
The challenge
A reporting platform designed to streamline and automate ESG reporting, with a primary focus on the ESRS framework while remaining adaptable to other standards.
This project presented a significant design challenge, requiring a deep understanding of complex ESG requirements and the workflows of the teams responsible for meeting them. Because the legislation is still evolving and updates are frequent, the platform needed to be highly flexible, scalable, and resilient to change.
Our goal was to create a system that not only simplifies the reporting process but also empowers users with clarity, transparency, and confidence as regulations continue to shift.
Strong foundations
I identified that Zero was missing some core foundations due to the speed at which it had been built, so I took the initiative to strengthen its strategic and structural baseline:
Conducted competitor analysis to understand the market landscape and clarify our potential positioning.
Created a comprehensive document mapping the entire product to:
Provide a centralised reference for stakeholders to easily understand how the complex platform functions
Supply marketing with clear, accurate source materials
Highlight discrepancies between what was designed and what was built
Identify weak points and uncover opportunities for improvement
Strategic research
I conducted an in-depth research project exploring the potential of opening up our reporting tool, developing interactive prototypes and demo videos that were showcased in high-level stakeholder presentations. This work helped communicate complex ideas clearly and influenced strategic decisions on the platform’s direction, as well as securing vital funding.
Additionally, I led research into AI integration, investigating how emerging technologies could enhance our products, streamline workflows, and create more value for users. Insights from this research informed potential features and long-term product strategy.
Copy that
Because the team didn’t have a dedicated UX copywriter, I recognised a skills gap and took the initiative to upskill—completing courses to strengthen my UX writing abilities. Clear and accurate copy was essential for this platform, as users must navigate highly technical terminology while still understanding the interface.
The challenge was to balance clarity with the precise language required for ESG reporting. To support the team and improve the product, I:
Created a comprehensive glossary, tone-of-voice guidelines, and a project-wide style guide
Conducted a full review of all platform copy and provided targeted recommendations for improvement
Spread knowledge amongst Product Owners and Developers on how essential UX copy can be in making or breaking a product
